December 11th! Christmas draws ever nearer, and some of you may be in a bit of a panic! What to buy, what to get! There are so many good games out now that it may be difficult to decide what to spend all your hard earned wing-wangs on. Especially with the current gen, games are more expensive than ever (atleast for 360 and PS3 owners...) so hopefully I can help you narrow down your choices.

Even people who don't play video games have heard about Halo 3, probably one of the most hyped and anticipated games of all time. A competent shooter with a good single player storyline, it shines like a polished diamond in multiplayer. If your box is Live capable, then picking this up and running some death matches online or with friends is definitely a great choice. If you prefer to go it alone, Mass Effect recently came out and its huge campaign should keep any player busy for a long time. About this time, there should be bargain bin titles appearing which while cheap, are also fun, such as Viva Pinata and Condemned: Criminal Origins.

Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be alot out for the PS3 this year. My strongest recommendation goes to people who enjoy over the top action and gunplay. John Woo's Stranglehold, while rough around the edges, provides intense gun battles and a great 90s film feel to content starved gamers. Due to its backwards compatibility, the huge backstock of PS2 and PS1 games can also be played, and a few gems are available in the online store (I purchased Castlevania: Symphony of the Night for ten dollars). If you are considering buying a Playstation 3, I would suggest waiting 6 months to a year, since then the price will probably have dropped again, and the playstation's library will be a bit meatier by then.

For people gaming on a budget, this is a great time. The Wii is itself a bargain (if you can find it) and the virtual console opens up many great oldschool games for a few dollars a piece. While 5-10 dollars may be a bit steep for something that's easily emulatable and in some cases almost two decades old, the ability to play classics on the Wii can't be beat.

Gamestop is a warren of good deals right now, if you can find them. For the price of a 360, Wii, or PS3, you can get a PS2 or Gamecube and a sizable library of good games to go with it. Even the slimline PS2s can be had for a song, and Gamecubes are practically being given away-- they are selling them near me for 40 dollars! By checking the used game and bargain bins, sometimes you can find some very enjoyable games that they are practically giving away. Metal Gear Solid 2 was going for less than $10 and Onimusha for less than $4! While older, if you've never had a chance to play them it's hard to pass up such bargains!

Hopefully this guide is atleast a little helpful for anyone shopping (or being shopped for) this year.
believe it or not I found a copy of MGS 3 [yes number 3] for 10 dollars as well

Jet Set Radio Future is available for around 2 dollars [it also includes sega GT]
it's a great game so keep an eye out for this one

Fatal Frame 2: Directors Cut can be found for under $20 dollars. Fans of the horror genre shouldn't pass this one up
