The goriest anime I've watched is Elfen Lied. There are many killing scenes here and there and this anime is definitely not for kiddos.

I didn't know there was a Battle Royale anime, but yeah i agree the Battle Royale manga was pretty gory
For everyone saying Battle Royale... There isn't a Battle Royale anime.
There's a Battle Royale novel which was adapted into a manga and a movie.
The manga and movie then spawned a sequel each which have nothing to with the novel but there's no anime.
As for me... Well I watched 2 episode of Elfen Lied then stopped due to the sheer boredom it induced on me but it was pretty gory. Other then that Hellsing Ultimate is pretty gory, you have splitting heads, intestines and peoples eyeballs being crushed not to mention blood left, right and centre (nothing like the Hellsing TV series).
O.o definately Berserk for me...^.^ it's also one of my very favorites lol
I am surprised people ( including me ) forgot to mention about Tokko.
It's very gory and creepy at the same time
