Ok this was what happened.
I bought a dvi to hdmi cable that i used on the PS3 to work on my PC monitor while i waited for my HDTV i bought over the week end. So The mode used was HDMI.
But when i tried to setup the PS3 to my new HDTV using the composite cables ( because i didn't have a HDMI to HDMI cable, and the DVI to HDMI wouldn't work on the new TV ), i was baffled as to how to switch the video mode to use composite !
I tried putting the PS3 back to the PC monitor and setting to composite, but it refused to save and kept reverting back to the HDMI mode the monitor supported.
So while i was going crazy, i found a good article explaining the trick.

Quote:Steve: The ps3 will auto detect your conection if you hold the power button after you turn it on untill you hear a beep. I was having this same problem except from switching from my hdmi plasma to my normal crt. After I figured this little trick out it was no problem.
